About the artist

WES and VICTORIAWes and Victoria are award winning Colorado based Americana artists. Whether it’s being voted Artist of the Year by the listeners of Starliners Radio network based in Rotterdam, or receiving the Colorado Wave’s Record of the year for their recordings, their work is thought provoking and accessible, much like the duo themselves Wes and Victoria started their career in San Antonio, Texas, where their first mentor was legendary keyboardist Augie Meyers of the Sir Douglas Quintet/Texas Tornado’s fame. From there they moved to Austin, where they owned and operated their own recording studio and performed or recorded with Donovan, Townes Van Zandt, Lucinda Williams, Stephen Bruton, BW Stevenson and many more. Relocating to Los Angeles, Wes and Victoria wrote and recorded for television and film in addition to working with Oscar Winner Paul Williams, Hans Zimmer, Robert Altman, and legends including Roy Rodgers and Johnny Cash. They performed across Los Angeles at venerable showcase venues including regular gigs at The Troubadour and The Whisky A Go Go.

Having moved to the Denver area, the duo has released six projects to date. The Ballad of Billy Saigon, White Man Red Road, the EP Evolution Revolution. Katrina Calling (a single), Prayer for the Living (a live single for originally written for a 9/11 benefit and re-released in the wake of the Aurora Theater tragedy) and a new full length release entitled Broken Angels all showcase the songwriting talents that have garnered Wes songwriting awards and accolades from other writers including Hall of Fame Songwriter Paul Williams, who heard the duo live at the Viper Room in Los Angeles. The songs are complemented by the extraordinary harmonica playing of Victoria, whose performances have been featured in commercials, television shows, and feature films as well as recordings. Wes and Victoria took these songs overseas after winning Artist of the Year recognition in the Netherlands from the Starliners Radio network, and found great response from audiences on their tour which included London, Rotterdam and Paris.

The title track of the Billy Saigon project was recently included in the Hamburg, Germany based Bear Family Records compilation release entitled “Next Stop Is Vietnam”. The track was singled out in the coffee table book that accompanied the compilation for particular attention, and is placed in the compilation alongside tracks from Bruce Springsteen, Hank Williams Jr, The Old Crow Medicine Show, Big and Rich and Pete Seeger. The compilation also includes performances by John Lennon and Bob Dylan. The White Man Red Road CD, which has received positive reviews as well, is embedded in the e-book of the same name recently released on Apple’s iBooks and all other major e-retailers, including Amazon and Barnes and Nobles. The Evolution Revolution EP- which includes 3 versions of the Evolution Revolution song showing its development from an acoustic songwriter version to a fully produced folk rock version and a hip hop dub step remixed version- was premiered recently on 94.1 in Melbourne Australia where Wes was the subject of a two hour live on air interview which included live acoustic performances featuring songs from White Man Red Road and material from Broken Angels.

The latest release is entitled Broken Angels, and is an all acoustic release whose production style was inspired by the Coffeehouse music scene of the early 1960’s and it’s recent resurgence, most notably on the Sirius/XM CoffeeHouse Channel. Wes has recently had a version of the title song “Broken Angels” included as a featured vocal performance in the new feature film release “Abel’s Field” which is in distribution by Sony Pictures and is in heavy rotation on cable broadcast. The film stars Kevin Sorbo of television’s Hercules and Andromeda Strain. The song is used to great effect in the payoff moment of the film. Wes and Victoria are veterans. Of music, and of life. Victoria’s brilliant and soulful harmonica is wrenched from two decades of chronic hospitalizations from BiPolar disorder, Suicide Wards, and suffering. It echos through the playing, yet it is somehow redemptive, because she has not only survived but has channeled that journey into some of the most emotive playing you will ever hear. If you have a heart, it will be cracked open. Wes has steadfastly stood at her side, surviving his own struggles with addiction yet still supporting her healing, all while writing, creating and recording a body of work that has landed him on disc alongside icons including Bruce Springsteen, and in a major film studio release from Sony Pictures in January of 2013 with the title song from the Broken Angel’s CD.
