About the artist
Lisa Ridgely & The Fainting Room are a Milwaukee-based folk-rock-pop band that specializes in tight lady harmonies, searing guitar solos and songs about nicknamed ovaries. The group showcases infectious pop melodies with darker undertones, rooted in a feminine perspective. After performing her fe-folk songs as a solo artist for a few years, Lisa decided to expand her sound with a backing band, The Fainting Room. The Fainting Room features Level 5 Guitar Jedi (2012 WAMI Award-winning Guitarist of the Year) Ryan Elliott, who also plays with local stalwarts the Form and rockers The Great Lakes Drifters, 2012 WAMI Best New Artist winners. Northwoods siren Sara Moilanen, 2011 WAMI Female Vocalist of the Year, plays bass and harmonizes with Lisa. She also lends her vocal abilities and bass playing to vintage country trio The WhiskeyBelles, and performs with her husband, Tim Suchocki, in Milwaukee-based Americana duo West of East (WAMI 2011 Americana Artist of the Year). Craig Mertes lends some rock ‘n roll perspective from behind the drum kit in between attempts to attach his drums to his bicycle.
The Fainting Room: A room in Victorian-era homes dedicated to the private treatment of female hysteria, a ladies-only condition diagnosed since ancient times by sexist doctor types and purportedly alleviated by “pelvic massage.” Symptoms included “a tendency to cause trouble.” Female hysteria is no longer recognized as a legit medical diagnosis, and fainting rooms have since been replaced with man caves by jealous husband types. Maverick: an unbranded range animal; call sign of Tom Cruise’s character in Top Gun; McCain & Palin in the 2008 presidential campaign; Lisa’s left ovary.
